Are You Lacking Libido? Let Red Ginseng get your libido back on track!

Dr. Juliet Ghodsian, ND

Red Ginseng, also known as Panax Ginseng, is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine that has been used as an aphrodisiac and as a treatment for erectile dysfunction for hundreds of years.

Expanding scientific research on the Ginseng root has discovered the presence of a multitude of chemical compounds that can have a medicinal action on the human body. The most well recognized of these compounds are the ginsenosides.   The Red Ginseng root containes 38 different ginsenosides.

There are many purported actions of these compounds on the human body. The relevant actions with respect to libido have to do with Ginseng’s ability to function as an Adaptogen.  An adaptogenic herb is a natural substance considered to help the body adapt to stress and to exert a normalizing effect upon stress hormone levels.  The organ in the body that regulates the stress response is the Adrenal gland. Adrenal hormones can become deficient over time with continuous and prolonged stress.  Depleted levels of these adrenal hormones, as well as testosterone, can be associated with decreasing libido and interest in sex, as well as erectile dysfunction in men and orgasmic dysfunction in both men and women.

If you have demonstrated Adrenal or male hormone deficiency that is contributing to symptoms of low libido, consider Red Ginseng as a functional tool to help get your libido and your hormones into the optimal zone.
