Dr. Samantha Gray, ND RAc

Naturopathic doctor, acupuncturist, inner alchemist, dancer, gardener, mother of two

Welcome to my biography page. I’m glad you are here.

Here is a bit about me:

A Vancouver native, Dr. Gray was a professional gardener in the lower mainland with her own landscape design, renovation and maintenance business.  As her experience with plants widened and her personal study of plant medicine deepened, she developed a growing appreciation for the vis medicatrix naturae, or healing power of nature, and decided to dedicate herself to the study of naturopathic and Chinese medicine to become a natural-health professional.

Dr. Gray became a Naturopathic Doctor (ND) and a Registered Acupuncturist (RAc) in 2001.  She received her dual degrees, a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine, from the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon.

In addition to her foundational degrees, Dr. Gray participates in extensive continuing education yearly.

Dr. Gray loves being with her two children whom she homeschooled for a number of years.  Motherhood has been one of the most profound teachers for Dr. Gray who brings her personal experience of mothering to her practice.  This personal awareness of the unique needs of motherhood assists her in caring for her patients who are also mothers.

In June 2002, Dr. Gray and Dr. Arjuna Veeravagu founded the first Sage Clinic in Vancouver, B. C.  Dr. Gray enjoys immensely the joys and challenges of being a business owner.  She finds the creativity of entrepreneurship to be a very meaningful aspect of her life.

She has a passion for Five-Rhythms Dance founded by Gabrielle Roth and dances weekly and sometimes for whole weekends to nourish her soul.  Dr. Gray has danced with Bettina Rothe, Jonathan Horan, Michael Skelton, Adam Barley and Joanne Winstanley for deep and meaningful healing in her life.

Dr. Gray loves to be in nature walking through the woods, climbing up mountains or strolling by the beach as well as doing yoga, cycling, tending to her garden, journaling and painting.  She has a particular interest in Jungian Psychology and mythology that she reads about and studies extensively.  She has taken part in a number of local trainings including extended Body-Soul work and writing workshops with local analyst Marlene Schiwy.

Dr. Gray recently completed her Alchemical Healing Mentorship Training with Lorie Eve Dechar and Benjamin Fox.  Starting in the spring of 2015, with other members of her learning cohort, Dr. Gray has also continued to participate in ongoing study of Alchemical Healing.  Together with Lorie and Benjamin we continue to explore, experience, read about and practice the unique work that is alchemical healing.  Read more about their unique and powerful offering here:  http://www.anewpossibility.com

Currently, Dr. Gray is engaged in meditation, conversation, dance and prayer with a group of mindful women dedicated to honouring the Awakened Feminine.

Here is an overview of my healing philosophy and guiding principles:

My aim is to support my patients to find their optimal health by rebalancing their physical body as well as gently and respectfully tending to their spiritual body.

I have observed through my years of practice that illness is a message from within that something we are doing isn’t working for our physical body nor is it working for our highest purpose, for our soul. A change is required, a transition, sometimes on many levels. I have found often that if the soul/spirit level is not addressed, the body will not fully heal. Symptomatic treatment is not lasting. Given this, my practice is aimed toward tending to the fundamental needs of the physical body while also listening to and caring for the needs of the spirit body. I use scientifically valid and empirically based natural and functional medicine in combination with the more esoteric practices of acupuncture and alchemical healing.

Although change is never easy, it is also through these times in our life when we build our character, get to see what we are made of and learn more about our unique gifts to the world. Strangely, it is often through facing adversity, through accepting and working with the challenge of change that the gift of healing comes. If we listen to the messages of the symptoms of illness rather than suppressing them, a healing transition can manifest, a transformation can occur and new possibilities can unfold.

My work as a healer is to support you, your body and soul through these transitions. I listen to the messages in the confronting challenges of your body’s symptoms. I listen to the wisdom found in these messages with respect and patience and then guide you toward the change needed to achieve healing. I apply my healing modalities to help you transition these symptoms back toward balance and vibrant health. My ample knowledge base as a naturopathic doctor, a registered acupuncturist and an inner alchemist provide me with a plethora of healing remedies and tools in my medicine bundle, both Western and Eastern medicine based.

Here is an interview I gave for Banyen books that gives more detail about my perspective, my training and my offering:
