Dr. Samantha Gray, ND RAc graduated in 2001 from the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in Portland, Oregon with a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine (ND) and a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (MSOM). She is a Registered Acupuncturist in British Columbia. In addition to her foundational degrees, Dr. Gray participates in extensive continuing education yearly. In June 2002, Dr. Gray co-founded the first Sage Clinic in Vancouver and Sage Clinic Victoria in 2012.
Dr. Gray’s knowledge as a Naturopathic Doctor (ND) and a Registered Acupuncturist (RAc) provide her with an array of Western and Chinese Medicine based healing remedies. Dr. Gray’s primary modes of therapy include: diet and nutrition, herbal medicine, homeopathy, homeopathic drainage as well as vitamin and mineral supplementation. In addition to careful listening and utilizing functional medicine testing, Dr. Gray aims to identify the root of physical symptoms. Her therapeutic strategy is to remove the “obstacles to cure” that are causing the symptoms and then support the body’s natural inclination and power to heal itself.
Dr. Gray combines the use of natural and functional medicine with the more spirit centred practice of acupuncture. As an ongoing mentorship student of Dr. Lorie Eve Dechar, LAc, teacher and author of Five Spirits – Alchemical Acupuncture for Psychological and Spiritual Healing, Dr. Gray offers Alchemical Healing for body, mind and spirit through her acupuncture sessions. This is a deep offering for those interested in clearing the mental and emotional blocks held within by connecting to the inner wisdom of the Self. During an acupuncture session, Dr. Gray will engage her patient in an inner sensing practice while evoking ancient myth and the guidance of the Taoist Five Spirits. Patients are supported to access their own powerful healing capacity within by bringing the light of their conscious awareness to the troubled places held inside. By this alchemical method, blocked energy can be liberated to provide for new life possibilities.
As a working mother of two, Dr. Gray has keen interest in the health and well-being of working women of all persuasions, whether they be at home, at work or both. She is personally aware of the unique challenges women face today in taking care of themselves while raising vibrant, healthy children and/or succeeding at their careers. Dr. Gray tailors her treatment protocols in consideration of the complexity many women face on a daily basis. She brings an abiding commitment and heartfelt respect to the empowered and mysterious feminine found in the heart’s and soul’s of all women.
Dr. Gray loves being with her two children whom she homeschooled for a number of years. Motherhood has been one of the most profound teachers for Dr. Gray who brings her personal experience of mothering to her practice. A Vancouver native, Dr. Gray was a professional gardener in the lower mainland with her own landscape design, renovation and maintenance business. As her experience with plants widened and her personal study of plant medicine deepened, she developed a growing appreciation for the vis medicatrix naturae, or healing power of nature, and decided to dedicate herself to the study of naturopathic and Chinese medicine to become a natural-health professional.
During her Classical Chinese Medicine studies in Portland, Oregon, Dr. Gray was provided the unique opportunity to learn “The Science of Nourishing Life” or Qi Gong. She is a Jinjing Gong (Tendon and Channel Qigong) school of Qigong lineage holder as taught by Master Wang Qingyu and Heiner Freuhauf PhD, LAc. Dr. Gray often prescribes Qigong practice to her interested patients. This method of Qigong is a powerful and effective tool for alchemical healing and Qi cultivation.
Dr. Gray loves to be in nature walking through the woods, climbing up mountains or strolling by the beach as well as doing yoga, cycling, tending to her garden, journaling and painting. She has a particular interest in Jungian Psychology and mythology that she reads about and studies extensively. She has taken part in a number of local trainings including Marion Woodman inspired Body-Soul work and writing workshops with local Jungian counsellor and author Marlene Schiwy.
